Whatnot fees used in this calculator

  • 8% commission on the item price, for most categories (US).
  • Payment processing of 2.9% + $0.30 on the order total, including the shipping the buyer pays.
  • So the calculator charges 10.9% on the item price, 2.9% on shipping, and $0.30 per order.

Rates from published seller guides, last checked October 2026. Electronics (5%) and coins (4%) have lower commission, and some categories pay no commission on the part of a sale over $1,500. Processing also applies to sales tax the buyer pays, which this calculator leaves out. Check Whatnot's seller fee page and edit the rates above if they differ.

A worked example

Example. You sell an item for $40.00 in a live show. The buyer pays $8.00 shipping and your label costs $8.00. You paid $10.00 for it and $1.00 for packaging.

Commission: 8% of $40 = $3.20. Processing: 2.9% of $48 + $0.30 = $1.69. Total Whatnot fees: $4.89. Profit: $24.11.

Whatnot vs eBay on the same sale

On the same $40 item with $8 shipping, eBay's fees come to about $6.93 and Whatnot's to about $4.89. The bigger difference is usually the price: live auctions can go well above or below what a fixed-price listing gets. See the full fee comparison.

Common questions

How much does Whatnot take from a sale?

For most US sellers, Whatnot charges an 8% commission on the item price, plus payment processing of 2.9% + $0.30 on the order total including shipping and sales tax, per seller guides checked October 2026. Electronics (5%) and coins (4%) have lower commission rates.

Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping?

Seller guides say the 8% commission is charged on the item price only, not shipping or tax. The 2.9% + $0.30 processing fee does apply to shipping and tax.

What are Whatnot's fees on a $50 sale?

On a $50 item with $6 buyer-paid shipping and no tax: commission $4.00, processing 2.9% of $56 plus $0.30 = $1.92, so about $5.92 in fees.

Are Whatnot fees different for electronics or coins?

Yes. Seller guides list 5% commission for electronics and 4% for coins and money. Change the fee percentage under “Fee rates used” to 7.9% for electronics or 6.9% for coins (commission plus the 2.9% processing).
